The museum of brewing was opened on October 14, 2005. It was the day of 290th anniversary since the first brewery in Lvov was opened.
This museum is one of a kind on the territory of Ukraine. The museum covers the area of 500 square meters. The exhibits are unique and they will tell you the history of brewing in Lvov starting from the ancient times till nowadays. In the museum you will be surprised by interesting facts and, of course, you will be offered to try this delicious beverage. Some of the items represented there are legendary.
The museum workers are very proud to present you: the book of recipes that dates back to the beginning of XX century, the Regulations of the Lvov society of brewers of 1897, the famous mug (galba) Zoska that dates back to the end of XIX the beginning of XX century, the collection of beer labels that counts more than 30000 items, ancient beer mugs made in different styles and in different countries of Europe, ancient bottles.
There is also a very interesting collection of instruments that brewers used during their work. There is also the model of one of the medieval breweries that was created according to engravings of some European breweries that were founded by Jesuit monks. In the museum you can see synthetic compositions that represent tree main components of good beer: water, hop and malt. The water is beer’s blood, hop is its soul and malt is its body, it gives the main part of substance that is present in beer.
There is a special isle in the museum that is dedicated to the origin and spreading of brewing. For example, there are copies of wooden sculptural representations of beer making taken from Egypt, III century BC. There is a possibility to watch a movie about brewery in Lvov, also you can visit the hall of beer sampling, and also there is a gift shop.
From the museum you can get to the pub restaurant Robert Dom’s Khmelnoi Dom. This restaurant is located in the former beer caves.
Also you will have a chance to see the pieces that were found during the archeological dig on the territory of modern Brewery in Lvov.
