Mamai’s freedom – is the museum under the open sky in Kiev. It was registered on July 9, 1990 and on July 9, 2009 it was opened for public. There are 98 pieces of art represented on the territory of this museum. Among the exhibits you can spot the estates of sotnik (Cossack lieutenant), Cossack-blacksmith, potter, cossak-armourbearer, Jewish shopkeeper, priest etc. You can also visit the cossack church that is still in function. In the middle of Sloboda there is a wooden church of The Intercession of the Theotokos or the Protection of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary which is similar to the one that used to be on the Zaporizhzhya Sich in times of Bogdan Khmelniysky. The main aim of Sloboda is to recreate Ukrainian traditions and rites. During the national and religious holidays street festivities are held on the territory of Mamaeva Sloboda. Also you have a chance to see the architecture and culture of Ukrainian baroque and get to know the specific way of life of Ukrainian cossacks. There is interactive excursion available where you can try on national Ukrainian national costume, learn the art of bell-ringer and salute of the cossack gun. There is also an opportunity to attend master-class which is held quit often where you can learn how to make some folk handicrafts. For some of tourists the lessons of knowledge of the Ukrainian nation are held. All the tableware in local restaurant is custom made according to historical sketches using ancient technology.
