|
The Temple in honor of the St.Andrew The First-Called is situated near the Askold Grave, on the crossing of ParkovaStreet and Heroes of Krut Street.
The temple and the memorial stone are designed and built using the idea of vertical dominant: the little chapel in the foundation of the temple is aiming up (the height 18m). This creates a unique coloring of the building and of the nearby territory. Taking into consideration the location (it is not far from Lavra)the chapel is built in traditional architectural forms of religious buildings which are very often seen in Kiev. That's why, because of the particularities of the style and territory, the chapel was included to the Lavra complex.
The main architect of the building - N.Jarikov.The temple is built in the style of Ukrainian baroque, but with the elements of its modern interpretation. The out-front icons of the chapel are created using the technic of ceramic art.
The construction of the temple was financed by the public fond of St.Andrew's the First-Called. The consecration and installing of the cross took place on December 13, 2000.
