The Sothern Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge across the Dnieper in Kiev. The construction of this bridge began in 1983, the car traffic was opened on December 25, 1990, the metro carriages traffic was opened on December 30, 1992. This bridge was considered to be the most modern in the USSR, they spent 112 million soviet rubles on the construction (over 200million dollars). The goal of this bridge was to connect the central part of Kiev with its left bank districts and also with Boryspol – the main airport in Kiev. The length of the bridge is 1256meters, the width – 41 meter. Syretsko-Pecherskaya metro lines circle on this bridge. The bridge connects Saperno-Slobidska street, the Stolichnoe highway and Vudybuchi (on the right bank of the Dnieper) with the Bajana avenue on the left bank and is also a part of highway E40.
