The Dormition of Our Most Holy and Glorious Queen

The architectural ensemble of the Dormition of Our Most Holy and Glorious Queen is by right considered to be a master piece of the renaissance architecture. It consists of Assumption cathedral, the bell tower, and the chapel of Holy Trinity.

The unique attraction of Lvov is the bell tower. Its height is 65 meters. It was built by architect Petro Barban in 1572-1578. Konstantine Korniatko, famous merchant originated from Greece, sponsored the construction. It has an ancient bell, 2 meters in diameter, called Kiril.

This tower is considered to be one of the prettiest in Europe. When the bell tower was built the brotherhood of Lvov decided to build a chapel (1578-1591) that was functioning as a cathedral before the Assumption Cathedral was constructed.

The process of building the church began in 1591. Pavel Rimlianin, famous architect, began the construction. Voitsekh Kapinos continued his work.The building was finished in 1629. In the middle of XIX century the church was restored and connected to the Chapel.

Today the architectural ensemble of the Dormition of Our Most Holy and Glorious Queen – is a beautiful complex, bell towers and towers. The beauty of this building is breathtaking.
