Passage is a residential commercial building, that looks like a corridor created by two parallel buildings. On the ground and first floors of the buildings are located all the shops, cafes and restaurants. On the upper floors – offices and apartments.
Passage is a street with only one building that leads up to Khreshatik street.
It is situated on Khreshatik street 15.
The construction of Passage began in 1913 and was finished in 1914.
It is a 6 story building with basement. It is made of bricks. It is covered in plaster. The main façade is facing the road. It is a type of an open passage, which consists of two parallel bulks connected by the sides of the buildings with arch passages.
On the ground floors there are shops, and the upper floors are residential. The center of façade is facing Khreshchatik street.
The shop windows are made in shape of big arches. The very smooth walls are decorated with relief framing – masks, garland, and sculpture arrangements. The side façade, facing Gorodetskogo Street, is also decorated with gallery of Corinthian Order on the level of 3-5th floor.
There used to be a private household on this spot in XIX-XX centuries.
After the war the façade of the building was restored according to the original. There used to be many legends about the true meaning of sculptures on this building : you can see garlands, symbols, bulls' skulls, angels, night owls, Mercury's rod, bulls' heads with ananases hanging on their horns, sculptures of men and women embracing, and children playing with lions.
In 1990th a little fountain appeared in front of the arch. Many famous people lived in this building. There are many memorial tablets on the facades of this building. Today Passage is a well-known place for shopping. And also it is a great place for romantic outing.
