Latin Cathedral is a Catholic church in Lvov. The Archcathedral Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an architectural monument. It is located on Kafedralna Square. The only monument in Lvov that has saved its original Gothic look.
Kazimir III began the construction of the cathedral in 1360s. the architect who designed the church was Piotr Shtecher. The first constructor of the church was Nichko. Only in 1479-1481 the building was finished. In 1493 Ganz Blekher built choir and by that finished the construction.
The cathedral is built of stone. Its length is 67 meters and 23 meters width. It resembles the cube but there were many chapels built around the cathedral which made the architecture style more complicated. The roof of the Cathedral has a high fronton. The tower on the main façade is designed in baroque style and is asymmetric.
There are a lot of memorial sculptures on the inside and outside of the cathedral. In the cathedral there are a lot of artistic pieces: wooden and marble altars, icons, sculptures, gravestones and beautiful stained-glass windows.
There is the organ specially designed for this cathedral in 1839.
