The Shevchenko Grove


The Shevchenko Grove

The Shevchenko Grove – is an ethnographic museum under the open sky.

This is a museum of popular architecture and life style. Here you can see the exhibits that represent the pieces collected from all over the Western Ukraine. Authentic Ukrainian embroidery, ancient wooden churches, unique architectural monuments are just some attractions that drag visitors here.

The Shevchenko Grove is located on the forest hills of Rastochie area near the Vysokiy Zamok Park. The idea of creating the museum appeared in 1930 when the Nikolaevska Church was built in Lvov in 1763. This was the first exhibit of the museum.

Today the museum has more than 120 pieces of architecture that are united into 54 farmsteads. The ethnographic principle was to organize the items. It is divided following the historical and ethnographical regions: Gutsulshchina, Podolie, Boikovshchina, Polesie, Volyn, Lemkovshchina, Pokutie, Zakarpatie and two ethno zones: Lvovshchina and Bukovina. The visitors of the museum can observe the national economy and way of life in the Western part of Ukraine. You can see the cathedrals, dwellings, service buildings of our ancestors, tools, clothes etc. the exposition has more than 20000 items.

The museum lies in a very beautiful hilly landscape. The creators of the museum tried to recreate the atmosphere of ancient times; they carried the buildings from different places to this spot.
